About Acne

Many teenagers and young adults suffer from acne, also known as rosacea. Acne is an inflammation occurring in a blocked pore next to a sebaceous (oil) gland. If the skin pore is blocked there will be an oil build-up in the area which causes irritation. With this irritation, bacteria can also multiply causing an inflammation. This inflammation is manifested by swelling, tenderness and redness. There is also the presence of blackhead and pus.

Oil glands are located just under the skin and the oil (sebum) they secrete is used to protect and lubricate the hair and skin. The glands are located next to the hair follicle and the oil is released to the hair and skin through the same pore.

Acne is a problem that can have a lasting effect to the sufferer. It not only leaves physical scars but also can affect the person mentally and emotionally.

Often chronic acne sufferers can loose self-confidence because of this condition especially when they are evident on the facial area. Acne can occur in the skin of the face, upper torso (chest, upper back, shoulders), and neck.

It is said that this condition is related to hormonal changes in the body. This is the reason why teenagers and young adults are prone to acne. They undergo big hormonal changes (increase of the hormone called androgen) in the body affecting the production of oil glands (increased production).

Both males and females are prone to have acne. If there is family history of acne, then the chance of having this condition is greater.
There are ways on how to cure acne. The physicians can prescribe antibiotics or other medications if the antibiotics do not work. There are also other alternative methods that one can try to treat acne.
